Carl de Boor, b. 03.04.1810 in Hamburg, d. 26.06.1853 ibid., son of the
Hamburg Lawyer Carl Friedrich de Boor (1776-1848) and the Hamburg Senator's
daughter Johanna Elisabeth Amsinck (1786-1812).
His childhood was spent on his family's country estate in Dockenhuden.
1829 Abitur [high school diploma] from the `Johanneum' [an elite school]
in Hamburg, then law studies in Heidelberg (1829/30), Halle (1830/31)
and again Heidelberg (1830/31), where he made the Dr. jur. in the Spring
of 1832. After that, he traveled in Italy and France and, after his return
in 1833, started a law practice in Hamburg.
"In October 1833, I settled down in Hamburg as a lawyer. In my two
years in that role, I wasn't very successful. In the second year, I decided
for various reasons to become a teacher, and followed up on this in that
I went, on Michael's 1835, to Berlin, in order to steep myself more in
Philology. After my return, on Easter 1836, I passed the teacher's candidate's
exam, and then taught probationally at the `Gelehrtenschule' of the Johanneum,
until Michael's (3. Oct.) 1837 when I was elected `Collaborator' at the
`Realschule' of the Johanneum. On 10.09.1840, there followed election
to full teacher at this school, and this was confirmed on 24.nov of that
year by the `Scholarrat' [council of scholars]."
10.01.1839 marriage to Louise Maria Auguste Schwartze (1813-1862), daughter
of a Hamburg businessman.
Until his death (1853), they lived with their five children at the Borgesch,
near the church of St. Georg in Hamburg.
